The second of four adaptations of the classic musical melodrama, this version features superb performances from Judy Garland and James Mason along with memorable songs by Harold Arlen and George Gershwin.
Aspiring singer Esther Blodgett saves inebriated former matinee idol Norman Maine from a potentially embarrassing incident on stage. Grateful, he asks her out to dinner and, impressed by her talent, offers to help her succeed. However, as her star rises, his career continues on its downward spiral.
